Hadi warns govt against associating with 'devil' Trump

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has warned the government against inviting former US president Donald Trump to the 47th Asean Summit in Kuala Lumpur next month, likening the move to “associating with the devil”.

In making the call, Hadi cited Quranic verses and prophetic traditions that caution Muslims against aligning with oppressors, stressing that Trump had openly supported Israel’s military campaigns against Palestinians.

“These crimes have been established by the International Court of Justice and decided upon by the UN Security Council (UNSC).

“Yet the United States not only used its veto to block all such resolutions but also directly supplied Israel with weapons and military aid, at the explicit instruction of Trump.

“Trump is also a great devil who deceives the world, acting as a cruel ‘peacemaker’ by insisting that Palestinians defending their homeland must disarm,” Hadi said in a Facebook post.

He argued that Trump’s administration had not only vetoed UNSC resolutions against Israel but also directly supplied banned weapons now being used to destroy Gaza.

He further accused Trump of attempting to lure Palestinians with large financial aid packages in exchange for accepting a two-state solution or surrendering land to Israel.

“Yet, the proud Palestinian people rejected all such offers,” Hadi said, adding that Trump further sought to influence Muslim and Arab leaders into “bowing to him”.

Unacceptable reason

The Marang MP also argued that justifying Trump’s invitation on grounds of “building friendships” was unacceptable, given Malaysia’s consistent stance in defending Palestine.

“Moreover, this is happening at a time when countries worldwide - including non-Muslim nations, and even Americans themselves - are beginning to boycott Israel, whose atrocities Trump has openly supported,” he added.

Quoting Quranic verses and hadiths, Hadi likened Trump to a “blacksmith” whose presence could only bring harm, warning that befriending the unjust would invite divine punishment.

Separately, PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man urged Amanah and Umno to state their stand on Anwar’s invitation to Trump.

He said both parties’ silence on the matter was “deeply disappointing”, particularly given Amanah’s record of opposing US foreign policy in the Middle East and condemning Israeli aggression.

Tuan Ibrahim also called on Umno, as part of the government coalition, to make its position clear, warning that silence would be seen as agreement to Trump’s presence.

”At a time when the world is condemning Israel’s atrocities backed by the United States, this silence is disappointing and surely hurts the hearts of Muslims in this country who stand in solidarity with Palestine,” he added.

He further cautioned that economic reasons should not justify overlooking the plight of Palestinians.

Last weekend, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim rebuked his critics and stressed that Malaysia would use the diplomatic platform to continue voicing concerns over Palestine, including the atrocities in Gaza.

He also stated that Malaysia must be strategic in negotiations, maintaining a firm stance in defending truth and justice while pursuing diplomacy with wisdom. - Mkini
