Did China just intercept a meteor with a missile?

 

IS IT true that the west is the pinnacle of human civilisation? While America is grappling with horrific gun violence or trying to determine the number of genders, here is a video purportedly showing the China military intercepting a meteor.

“China can shoot down any incoming missiles if it manages to shoot down a meteor,” said an impressed @DysnomiaDy24169 while netizen @SetPixels pointed out that at least there is one country taking our future seriously.

“Crazy to think that they’re the only ones able to protect Earth from meteors,” added @supakoii. But of course, there are the sceptics too.

According to @ScotsBrit2, they actually made the damage worse instead of solving the problem.

Then there was @RussiasPivot explaining  that the meteor exploded by itself.

So which version is the truth? According to the news portal The Watchers, officials from the Weifang Emergency Management Bureau have confirmed they received no reports of an aerial interception or shoot-down. 

Authorities also stressed that the nature of the mysterious object has yet to be identified.The incident, still unexplained, occurred on September 12 between 8:45 p.m. and 9:02 p.m. local time (12:45–1:02 p.m. UTC).

Witnesses in the cities of Weifang and Rizhao, Shandong Province, described seeing a glowing fireball streaking across the sky, followed by a sudden flash.

Videos of the phenomenon quickly spread across social media, fueling speculation. Some users and local headlines even suggested that a second light source appeared beforehand, hinting at the possibility of an aerial intercept. 

These claims, however, remain unverified and have only added to online chatter about whether the event could have been linked to military activity. — Focus Malaysia
