Muda urges youth to break free from 'old politics'

Muda is calling on youths nationwide to break free from the polemics of “old politics”.

The party’s Perak information chief, Shafiq Mukminin, said the younger generation must reject the culture of being political puppets that followed the rhythm of old political games.

In conjunction with Malaysia Day and in taking steps to fresher politics, the state chapter will be launching its own mobile office, which will go on the ground to address the people’s grievances as part of their preparation towards the 16th general election.

“We need to prepare ourselves to build this country with the soul of statesmen, not just temporary leaders (as) Malaysia’s future lies in our courage to offer fresh, honest, and people-centred leadership.

“In conjunction with Malaysia Day, we call upon all Malaysians, especially the youth in political parties and social activist movements, to reflect for a moment (and) not to get carried away in polemics involving GE16 about who will be the next prime minister.

“Hold the GE16 first, and put forward the prime minister’s name afterwards (as) that is the basic principle of parliamentary democracy,” he said in a statement today.

He added that other countries have long arranged for a smooth and fresh leadership transition, ensuring generational continuity.

But the same could not be said for Malaysia, Shafiq added, as the country continues to recycle old faces as if there is no room for new leadership to emerge and contribute.

He also called on the youth to not close the door to political diversity but dare to demand truly worthy leadership.

“Use this Malaysia Day as a mirror; let us not only celebrate history, but make it a starting point to build a more just, united and visionary future.” - Mkini
