
KUALA LUMPUR: More than 10,000 advocacy notices were issued to road users who violate traffic laws under Op Pematuhan Undang-Undang (Op PUU) from Sept 16 to 18.
Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad said of the total, 9,508 notices were issued to motorists and 528 to pedestrians.
"Under the operation, 4,578 notices were issued to motorcyclists, 4,353 to car drivers, 219 to taxi drivers, 207 to van drivers and 146 to lorry drivers.
"The offences include traffic obstruction (3,559 notices), ignoring traffic signals (2,326), not following pedestrian crossings (1,835) and stopping in a yellow box (525)," he said in a statement today.
Usuf said 458 notices were issued for dirty or unclear number plates, 408 for not wearing seat belts, 470 for stopping past the white line, 224 for number plates not following regulations, 199 for modified motorbikes and 32 for not wearing a helmet.
Previously, Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said the operation would focus on education, community engagement, easing congestion caused by errant road users and preventing crime.
Op PUU involves the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department, Road Transport Department, Kuala Lumpur City Hall and Department of Environment. - NST
