THE Royal Malaysia Police have revealed that 10 politicians were targeted with artificial intelligence (AI)-generated pornographic email threats. Despite this, only four have officially filed reports so far.
Inspector-General of Police, Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail, confirmed that investigations are under way to uncover the motive behind these blackmail attempts. He suggested that the threats could have been driven by groups hoping to profit financially.
“Such cases often involve attempts to pressure individuals into paying money. We are working to identify those responsible,” he told reporters at a press conference held at the Kuala Lumpur Police Training Centre.
Bukit Aman’s Criminal Investigation Department Director, Datuk M Kumar SU Muthuvelu, explained that the incidents began when victims received emails demanding US$100,000 (RM422,000). The senders threatened to release fabricated pornographic videos using the victims’ faces if the ransom was not paid.
The first known case was reported by Subang MP Wong Chen on 12 September. He was told that failure to comply within three days would result in a fake video of him being posted online.
Senator Datuk Nelson W Angang became the second identified target, with a similar email sent his way. The third and fourth victims were Kulim State Assemblyman Wong Chia Zhen and Sungai Petani MP Mohammed Taufiq Johari, both of whom received identical demands.
Kumar noted that the cases shared the same method of extortion, with the perpetrators banking on fear of reputational damage to extract payment. — Focus Malaysia
