PONTIAN: A temporary relief centre has been opened at Sekolah Kebangsaan Penerok, Tanjung Piai, to shelter 57 flash flood victims from the Pontian district.
The centre, which began operations at 8pm yesterday, is currently housing 21 families displaced by flooding in Kampung Makam, Penerok, and Kampung Parit Bugis.
State Disaster Management Committee chairman Datuk Asman Shah Abd Rahman said the floods were triggered by heavy rain earlier in the afternoon yesterday, which has since subsided.
"The weather in the affected areas is currently clear," he said in a statement.
Asman Shah, who also serves as the Johor State Secretary, confirmed that authorities are monitoring the situation and providing necessary assistance to evacuees.— BERNAMA
