KOTA TINGGI: Another body was discovered beneath the burnt lorry involved in the fatal crash at Km26 of Jalan Lok Heng–Mawai yesterday, which had already claimed the life of its driver, R. Sasitharan, 38.
The victim, identified as A. Komala, 45, was found this evening during the lifting operation on the wrecked lorry.
Kota Tinggi district police chief, Superintendent Yusof Othman, said the woman was believed to be the driver's adoptive sister.
"Late last night, the family informed us that there was another victim who had been travelling with the driver, a woman who was his adoptive sister.
"At about 4.30pm today, her body was successfully recovered and sent to the Kota Tinggi Hospital Forensic Unit for further action," he said in a statement.
In the 4.35pm incident yesterday, the male driver was burnt to death after his lorry skidded, plunged into a ravine and caught fire.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. - NST
