ECRL construction halted on MRR2 section after structure falls onto car

KUALA LUMPUR: Construction work on a section of the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2) FT28 towards Batu Caves has been halted following the collapse of a temporary steel frame onto a vehicle earlier today.

The incident occurred during Road Under Bridge (RUB) works for the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) Project.

Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (MRL), the owner of ECRL, said all construction in the area has been suspended pending a full investigation.

"The temporary structure used for RUB #16 reportedly failed and struck a Suzuki Swift vehicle at around 2pm," MRL said in a statement, adding that the driver was unhurt.

"The affected route has now reopened for public use," the statement added.

MRL said the Fire and Rescue Department, police, Public Works Department (PWD), and Occupational Safety and Health Department (DOSH) are at the site to carry out further actions.

"As a safety measure, all construction work in the affected area has been stopped while awaiting a thorough investigation by the relevant authorities," MRL said.

It said the temporary structure was built to ensure road safety and support the implementation of RUB #16.

Construction of RUB #16 was completed in October, with the opening of the temporary structure scheduled for Nov 20, 2025, after approval from the relevant agencies.

"MRL is committed to fully cooperating with all authorities in the ongoing investigation and ensuring that all safety measures are adhered to.

"Our priority is the safety of road users, the public, and project workers," the statement said.

It was reported that Fire and Rescue Department received a distress call at 1.47pm, and a team of seven personnel from the Selayang Fire and Rescue team was dispatched to the scene. - NST
