KLUANG: A Segamat Hospital ambulance driver was killed and three others were injured, including two paramedics and a patient, when their vehicle crashed and overturned on the North-South Expressway (southbound) this afternoon.
The fatal crash occurred at Kilometre 59.8 of the highway at 1.10pm today, and the 43-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene from severe injuries.
Renggam Fire and Rescue Station operations commander M Nasir A. Shah said a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) with six personnel was deployed and arrived at 1.27pm.
"Upon arrival, we found four victims — the male ambulance driver, two female paramedics, and a female patient," he said.
Nasir added that the driver and a front-seat passenger were ejected from the ambulance, while the two others in the rear were unharmed.
The driver's body was handed over to police for further action.
Kluang police chief Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh confirmed the accident and said a formal statement would be issued soon. - NST
