KUALA LUMPUR: The passing of former People's Progressive Party (PPP) president, S. I. Rajah, 86, who died yesterday due to pneumonia, has been described as a major loss to both his family and the party.
PPP president Datuk Dr Loga Bala Mohan conveyed his condolences to the late leader's family, noting that Rajah had led the party during challenging times.
"The late Rajah was known as a committed leader who contributed significantly to the continuity and development of PPP, while firmly upholding the party's core principles, including multiracialism and service to the people.
"He served with dedication and played a crucial role in guiding the party through periods of transition and internal challenges," he said in a statement today.
Loga added that Rajah's leadership and contributions continue to be remembered by the party's leadership and members.
"On behalf of the leadership and members of PPP nationwide, I extend my deepest sympathies to the family of the late Rajah. May they be granted strength and resilience during this difficult time.
"The late Rajah, who was also an influential lawyer, served as PPP president from 1978 to 1982 and remained an important figure in the party despite no longer being actively involved in its leadership," he said. - NST
