PAS Youth: It’s immaterial if Bossku is guilty in 1MDB scandal; it’s about upholding Agong’s addendum decree

PAS Youth has taken the Madani administration to task for yesterday’s (Dec 22) Kuala Lumpur High Court’s decision to rule against former premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s house arrest bid for “it reflects failure to uphold royal edict of the then Yang di-Pertuan Agong (YDPA) Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.

On that note, the movement’s chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden further pointed out that this illustrates the Federal government’s negligence and serious misstep in managing the royal decree so that it goes through the correct legal procedures.

“PAS Youth would like to emphasise that the main basis in this issue is about upholding the Agong’s addendum edict as well as the principles of integrity and openness of the government to ensure that the latter is upheld,” he stressed in a media statement.

“This issue doesn’t concern whether Najib is guilty or not as claimed by some parties.

Afnan further highlighted that the High Court’s decision raised questions about the integrity of the Attorney-General (AG) who was earlier accused of hiding the addendum edict.

“What’s more, the alleged existence of the addendum decree was admitted by the AG himself during the trial at the Federal Court level previously,” he hit out.

“Therefore, the question mark here is why it (addendum edict) seems to have been deliberately hidden and not presented at the Pardon Board meeting that was held at that time?

“This is a serious integrity problem, not to mention that the Madani Government had also previously dismissed claims on the existence of the royal edict as hearsay.”

Afnan who is the Alor Setar MP also lambasted DAP lawmaker Yeo Bee Yin for her social media posts which likened Najib’s failed house arrest bid to “a cause for celebrating the forthcoming New Year as having sparked speculation and unrest among the public.

“This is because the main issue of this case involves the validity of the pardon process, the position of the Constitutional Monarchy institution and the people’s confidence in the governance of the Madani government which is dwindling,” argued Afnan.

“How can a matter of this magnitude simply become a political joke for DAP MPs? Why are DAP MPs insensitive to such issues or have they failed to accurately assess the failures of the government that they themselves lead behind the judgment?”

Added the son of the late former National Mosque grand imam Datuk Taib Azamudden Md Taib:

“PAS Youth believes that this issue will further escalate public confidence deficit in the Madani government.

“It reflects the government’s failure to uphold the YDPA’s edict and even poses a major question to the principles of integrity and transparency supported by the Madani government today.” –  Focus Malaysia
