KOTA KINABALU: A teacher at a private tahfiz centre in Telipok has been suspended, said Sabah State Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JHEAINS), Datuk Jumain Abdul Ghani.
The teacher is alleged to have assaulted students using a helmet outside a cyber cafe and has been arrested by police for investigations.
"The decision to suspend the teacher was made by the tahfiz centre's management board.
"It is an initial step to ensure that investigations can be conducted transparently and comprehensively," he said when met by the media after the press conference on the announcement of results of the 2025 Lower Religious Certificate Examination and Religious Secondary Certificate Examination.
He added that the tahfiz centre is a private institution legally registered with JHEAINS.
He noted that the authority to manage and discipline teaching staff rests with the institution's governing board.
"A JHEAINS team conducted a visit to the tahfiz centre and obtained a full report as soon as the issue went viral," he said. - NST
