It said the original post on Facebook had been deleted and the responsible account, named “Dickie Borneo”, had been locked.
“Further investigations are ongoing. Monitoring by MCMC also found several other posts insulting religion, believed to have been made by the same person, in a social media group.
“All the posts have been preserved as evidence for investigation and further action,” it said in a statement today.
The commission said the person’s actions were not only insulting to Islam but could incite tensions and threaten the harmony of Malaysia’s multiracial and multireligious society.
Yesterday, Sabah’s religious affairs committee chairman Arifin Arif said the state government would launch an immediate investigation into the matter as it allegedly involved a Sabahan.
This incident comes after a Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah student pleaded not guilty last Tuesday to a charge of defiling a copy of the Quran by stepping on it.
S Vikneswaran claimed trial to a charge of improper use of network facilities for posting a picture on social media showing him stepping on the Quran.
