BUKIT GANTANG: Bukit Gantang member of parliament Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal said he will neither join nor meet Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin to discuss the formation of a "new political home".
Syed Abu Hussin said he was not involved in any discussions on the matter and remains non-partisan for now.
"I am not interested. I am non-partisan. So far, there have been no discussions or meetings to discuss this," he said when met at the Bukit Gantang parliamentary service centre here today.
On the "new home" mentioned by Hamzah, he said the people must be mature in their thinking and make the right decision.
"People must open their eyes now to choose leaders who truly deliver.
"If Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim can deliver various benefits to the people, there is nothing wrong in choosing him again as prime minister.
"If Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad could do it before, why can't our current prime minister do the same?" he said.
It was previously reported that Hamzah was among 17 leaders sacked by the Bersatu disciplinary board last month.
Since then, there has been much speculation surrounding the former Bersatu deputy president's next move regarding his political future.
On the cost of living, Syed Abu Hussin said global factors such as international conflicts, including tensions in the Middle East, could affect oil prices and, in turn, the cost of essential goods.
"When oil prices rise, all other costs will also increase.
"The government must act early and exercise control to prevent any parties from taking advantage, especially in the supply of rice," he said.
He said although rice prices are currently under control, issues such as supply shortages and repackaging activities must be given serious attention.
"The government must monitor stock levels and ensure sufficient supply.
"If prices begin to rise, buffer stocks should be released to stabilise the market," he said.- NST
