BENTONG: A 29-year-old man has been detained after a TikTok video showed him dangerously drifting a luxury BMW 325i on the road to Genting Highlands.
District police chief, Superintendent Zaiham Mohd Kahar the suspect was arrested yesterday when he turned up at the Traffic Office of the Bentong District Police Headquarters.
"The suspect was detained, and the vehicle seized for further action," he was quoted as saying by Harian Metro.
Zaiham also said initial urine tests on the suspect returned negative results.
A 14-second clip circulating on TikTok on March 2 showed the vehicle drifting left and right on a bend en route to Genting Highlands, he said.
"Preliminary investigations found the driver performed reckless turns on a bend, endangering other road users," he said in a statement today.
The road leading up to Genting Highlands, a popular holiday resort, is steep and winding, featuring numerous sharp bends and hairpin turns.
Zaiham said the case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving endangering the public.
He advised all road users to comply with traffic laws and avoid dangerous driving that could threaten their safety or that of others. - NST
