Auditors to look into 'missing votes' claim, PKR's election process

PKR POLLS | The PKR political bureau has instructed private audit firm Baker Tilly to look into Youth Chief contender Akmal Nasir's allegations of votes going missing in a "systematic and planned" manner.
Baker Tilly is the company that had been tasked to confirm the integrity of the e-voting system used in the party's just-concluded polls.
PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil, who read out a statement issued after the party's political bureau meeting held in Parliament, said a decision was also made to appoint an independent auditor to audit the overall elections process.
Results from the party elections held on consecutive weekends since Sept 22 had been uploaded on its official website, but with only a few days left before its national congress this weekend, the election committee (JPP) is rushing to complete verification of all disputed votes identified as "undi ragu".
"The PKR political bureau has instructed the JPP to swiftly resolve issues of disputed votes for all affected divisions, by calling representatives of both deputy president contenders to observe the process," said Fahmi.
He also said the political bureau has taken a stand to accept the JPP's decision on outcomes for the Julau, Pensiangan and Tawau divisions, as well as to proceed with the national congress this weekend.
"At the same time, the party will give full cooperation to any enforcement agencies including the Communications and Multimedia Commission, Royal Malaysia Police and the MACC, which are currently investigating matters related to the party polls," he said.
Earlier, a group of PKR MPs aligned to deputy president contender Rafizi Ramli urged the PKR's political bureau members to make the "right decision" to call for an investigation over allegations of missing votes.
"In terms of any decision, we will accept them as is. But in our view, please be fair, before the political bureau makes any decision tonight.
"Our intention is for this matter to be presented as facts and for them (political bureau) to make a decision," Akmal had said.
Ahead of the national congress, PKR deputy president contender Azmin Ali had claimed victory.
In a statement signing off as deputy president for the 2018 to 2021 term, he thanked his supporters for furthering the "true Reformasi agenda." - Mkini
