Four PJ restaurants shut down

During the half-day operation, four restaurants in Section 17, Petaling Jaya, were ordered to close because of poor food handling and lack of business licence.
THE Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) closed four restaurants in Section 17 because of poor hygiene and the lack of business licence.
A total of 17 compound notices were issued during the half-day operation by the council’s health department.
A council spokesman said there were many complaints from the public on dirty eateries.
On the issue of restaurant cleanliness, Bukit Gasing assemblyman R. Rajiv advised operators not to wash dishes on the walkway and adhere to guidelines set by the council.
Rajiv said he would help restaurant operators in the Bukit Gasing constituency together with MBPJ if they were keen on learning the do’s and don’ts.
“I can get the help of the council’s health department, visit the restaurants and explain the reasons why they are being issued summonses,” he said.
On a different matter, he hoped the parking bays in a new mixed development building in Section 17, Petaling Jaya, would be open to the public from 6am to 10pm.
He said this would enable the morning market-goers to utilise the parking bays instead of illegally parking their vehicles on road shoulders.
Rajiv said he has conveyed the idea to the developer of the project, who told him that at the moment, final touches on the security measures were being put into place and would consider his suggestion after it was completed.

“At the moment, the parking bays from level three to five are open to the public for free from 10am to 10pm. If it is open 24 hours, it will be better.
“Parking for visitors at the mixed development is free at the moment. Hopefully, it will remain free as it will help the businesses in the building,” he said.
Currently, he added, those visiting Section 17 during lunch and dinner hours did not have difficulty finding parking.
However, those who arrive before 10am find it hard to get a parking spot.
Separately, Rajiv said the Pasar Sentosa in Section 17 has a modern wastewater discharge method whereby wastewater from all market traders is channelled to a special collection point and then treated by the sewerage management company.
“This collection spot will be cleared every two hours and there are two staff members managing it.
“In the past, the wastewater from poultry sellers, for example, would go directly into the drains. Now, we have a system to discard this water properly.
“The market is clean and I think it is the best looking market in Petaling Jaya,” he said.
Rajiv added that continuous discussion between MBPJ, market traders and the developer has resulted in the traders and the public getting a comfortable market.- Star
