PETALING JAYA (Bernama): Guar Chempedak assemblyman Datuk Dr Ku Abdul Rahman Ku Ismail is the latest Umno member to leave the party to become an independent representative.
His departure from the party was announced by Kedah state assembly speaker Datuk Ahmad Kassim at the state assembly meeting Monday (Nov 12) before the oral question session.
“I was informed of the matter through a letter I received yesterday ... so his seat in this House will be changed,” he said.
Ku Abdul Rahman, 62, who hails from Yan near Alor Setar, defeated PAS candidate Musoddak Ahmad for the Guar Chempedak state seat in the 14th general election in May.
He has been a Barisan Nasional assemblyman since 2008 and was an appointed state exco member from 2013 to 2018.
He served as political secretary to former defence minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar from 1997 to 2001 and has a PhD in Rubber Science from Loughborough University. – Bernama
