Lawyer Mohd Khairul Azam Abdul Aziz has denied hiding his client following claims that the latter is missing.
“How can I hide a human being?” he asked.
“A person is not a mineral water bottle or a biscuit to be easily hidden. (So) I deny hiding him. He is not even with me... his family has not made any police report that he is missing," he told Malaysiakini.
His client Mohamad Edi Mohamad Rias, also known as "Edi Rejang”, had landed in the spotlight after he uploaded a video on Facebook showing him berating a beer promoter in Kuala Lumpur.
After the video went viral, DAP lawmaker Lim Lip Eng lodged a police report on the incident. The Kepong lawmaker later met with Edi, who has since apologised for his action.
Yesterday, Lim said Edi did not turn up at the Ampang Jaya district police headquarters despite an appointment made by DAP's lawyers and that he was uncontactable.
DAP had earlier stated that its legal team would assist Edi when he is interviewed by the police after the latter purportedly expressed fear of being arrested.
Ampang Jaya police chief Hamzah Alias told Malaysiakini yesterday that Edi and the beer promoter's statements have been recorded.
Meanwhile, Khairul said his client decided not to use the services of the DAP lawyer.
"It was he (Edi) who contacted me to represent him," he added.
Today, it was reported that businessmen had contacted Lim with offers of financial and employment aid for Edi, who lost his job after the incident.
However, the DAP lawmaker said Edi was still uncontactable.
Commenting on this, Khairul said: "I am Edi's lawyer, so contact me. Ask DAP to get in touch with me, call me, I will answer, no problem. Give DAP my number.”
In response, Lim said DAP will not be dealing with Khairul.
He said: "We do not want to deal with him (Khairul). Let him deal with his client, Edi Rejang, henceforth." - Mkini
