The International Trade and Industry Ministry has completed an anti-dumping investigation on imports of galvanised iron coils/sheets from China and Vietnam following a petition from a domestic producer.
The ministry, in a statement today, said it found sufficient evidence to continue further with the investigation on the importation of galvanised iron from the alleged countries.
Hence, it said the government decided to impose a provisional measure, which shall be in the form of provisional anti-dumping duties guaranteed by a security equivalent to the amount of the dumping margins determined in the preliminary determination.
It said the provisional anti-dumping duties ranged from -3.33 percent to 16.13 percent would be applied on galvanised iron imports from the alleged countries for not more than 120 days from Nov 8.
The ministry said that the investigation was initiated in accordance with the Countervailing and Anti-Dumping Duties Act 1993 and Countervailing and Anti-Dumping Duties Regulations 1994 on July 25, 2018 based on a petition filed by FIW Steel Sdn Bhd.
It said the petitioner, on behalf of the domestic industry producing galvanised iron, claimed that imports of galvanised iron from the alleged countries, were being dumped into Malaysia at a price much lower than their domestic selling price, thus hurting local companies.
“Interested parties can have access to the non-confidential version of the public report on the Preliminary Determination by submitting a written request to the ministry,” it said.
