Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said today he has communicated with the proponents of Harapan Coin and they have agreed to no longer raise the issue of the proposed cryptocurrency, which is aimed at raising funds for Pakatan Harapan.
Instead, Lim said, advocacy for the matter will be raised through the proper channels.
"I actually communicated with the minister who made the announcement and he has agreed not to make any more statements relating to that.
"It was just a remark but he didn't know that it would be widely reported.
“He has agreed that in the future, all this should be channelled through Bank Negara Malaysia, the Securities Commission and the Finance Ministry," he told journalists after officiating the SCxSC Fintech Conference 2018 in Kuala Lumpur today.
Lim did not name the minister but the Harapan Coin idea was first raised by Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad.
