Over 11,000 Julau PKR members share 11 ‘addresses’

PKR POLLS | Checks on Julau PKR's membership database have revealed that 84 percent or more than 11,000 members were registered using just 11 “addresses".
Malaysiakini also found that these "addresses" were incomplete and merely the combination of names of polling districts and state constituencies in Julau.
This is despite the party’s political bureau clearing the division of an alleged dubious spike in membership yesterday.
Acting on a tip-off from a reader who wished to be known only as "TJ", Malaysiakini verified that at least 11,399 out of 13,549 party members in Julau were sharing the 11 "addresses."
Malaysiakini crosschecked the identity card numbers of a small sample of these members against the Election Commission's data, and confirmed that the addresses used for their PKR registrations corresponded with their respective polling districts and state constituencies.
For example, 2,141 members were registered with the address “Lamujan, Pakan” - the most among the 11 “addresses".
Lamujan is a polling district under the Pakan state constituency.

Duplicated and triplicated membership
Malaysiakini also spotted that there were there were at least 874 members with duplicated membership numbers.
Meanwhile, there were seven cases which 21 members have triplicated membership numbers.
The intake of new members in the Julau PKR division courted controversy after its membership shot up from 603 to 13,549 in a day.
Sarawak PKR information chief Vernon Kedit raised the issue of the sudden spikes in membership in both the Julau and Sarikei divisions.
The PKR political bureau, however, was informed by the party’s secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution that there had been no breach in the new membership application process of the division.
The party’s elections committee has set Nov 10 and 11 for Julau and other divisions to conduct their elections.
When contacted, PKR elections committee director Rashid Din clarified that the issue of party membership should be directed to Saifuddin.
He further explained that the elections committee will conduct the party election based on the given party membership record.
“We got the membership list from the party to conduct the (party) election. Whether the membership is invalid or not, it is not within our responsibility,” he said.
Malaysiakini was unable to reach Saifuddin for comments despite numerous attempts. - Mkini
