Probe everyone involved in KL City Plan 2020 violations - Yeoh

The MACC must investigate all parties, including officials, involved in controversial developments and land deals as listed in the gazetted Kuala Lumpur City Plan 2020 (KLCP 2020), said Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh.
Yeoh added that there was nothing to stop the MACC from investigating thoroughly the violations pertaining to land deals although they have been approved by the previous government.
"We are telling MACC that the act of gazetting wrongdoing does not legitimise corruption. Just because something has the former government's approval, it doesn't mean that it's morally right and no corruption is involved" said Yeoh, who is also the deputy women, family, and community development minister.
Earlier, Yeoh and representatives of the Civil society organisation Save Kuala Lumpur (SKL) held a press conference at Desa Sri Hartamas, Kuala Lumpur, to demand that MACC investigate and act upon the reports lodged on the matter.
Yeoh said while she was happy that the KLCP 2020 has been gazetted, the violations which have been gazetted were serious.
"The violations exceeded 270. A list of violations for every parliamentary constituency had been given to the respective MPs.
"I have taken mine. I have gone to the MACC to tell the officers: this is the violation. Please investigate."
In her Facebook post yesterday, Yeoh said that she had obtained the list of violations from the Kuala Lumpur City Hall for the Segambut constituency and submitted it to the MACC.
Greater transparency
She said the violations involved the green lung which had become (the site for) commercial or mixed housing projects, adding this was a serious violation.
"There's a lot of money involved in such a transaction and change in the planning status. MACC needs to get to the bottom of this.
"While we have changed the government and political leaders, removed the old mayor and the federal territories minister out of the picture, the department and some officials who prepared all this are still there and they need to be investigated," she said.
Meanwhile, SKL questioned the legality of the recently gazetted KLCP 2020.
Its deputy chairperson M Ali said the plan was substantially different from the 2008 draft KLCP, which underwent public participation and consultation from 2008 to 2012.
"This is contrary to Section 14 of the Federal Territory (Planning) Act 1982 as the substantive changes were never displayed to the public," he said.
Ali added that the KLCP 2020, which comes together with an addendum listing violations against the plan from May 2015 to 2018, should be independently verified to ensure that the list of violations is complete.
He urged Federal Territories Minister Khalid Samad to ensure greater transparency and accountability in the development of the KL Structure Plan 20140 and the KLCP 2040.
"Many of the planners and architects involved in the previous plans have working relationships with developers and may not be fully independent. Past experiences with the planning department of DBKL leaves a lot to be desired, - Mkini
