PETALING JAYA: Rafizi Ramli claimed that various problems that plague the polls in Sabah had cost him a 3,000-vote lead against his rival Mohamed Azmin Ali, in the wake of reports that the latter is ahead of him in the race for the deputy president’s position.
According to the former Pandan MP, these problems included poor internet connectivity, the lack of printers providing QR codes for voters and a polling centre that could not accommodate voters.
Rafizi said that it was estimated that the Pensiangan and Keningau division would have given him a margin of over 3,000.
“Only if the process had proceeded smoothly and not been sabotaged by various problems,” he said in a Facebook post today.
He then urged the PKR election committee (JPP) to announce the results of the Tawau, Keningau and Pensiangan divisions immediately.
Earlier today it was reported that Azmin is leading the former PKR secretary-general by 1,611 votes based on the official results in 22 out of 25 divisions in Sabah.
The results, which were posted on the party’s website, have Azmin with 9,325 votes against Rafizi’s 7,714 votes.
But the three divisions have yet to put up their results.
However, Tawau’s unofficial result showed Azmin leading Rafizi by about 500 votes.
Despite talk that his team had lost in Sabah, Rafizi urged them not to feel dejected.
He reminded them that the outcome in Keningau and Pensiangan had not been determined.
He was also confident that members in Sarawak would help him close the gap with Azmin, who is defending his position as deputy president. - FMT
