Putrajaya MP Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor has been charged with allegedly receiving RM3 million in bribes during his term as federal territories minister.
This was alleged to have taken place on two occasions, according to charges brought against him by the MACC.
The first incident is alleged to have taken place at the Putra World Trade Centre on Dec 27, 2013.
Tengku Adnan is accused of having accepted an RM1 million cheque from Tan Eng Boon, a director of property firm Nucleus Properties, now known as Paragon City Development Bhd.
Tan is said to have had a working relationship with Tengku Adnan as the federal territories minister in relation to a development project in Jalan Semarak, Kuala Lumpur.
Tan (centre in photo) was charged in a separate courtroom today for abetting the offence.
Paragon City Development is a subsidiary of the Joland Group, which Tan chairs.
According to Joland's website, Paragon City is a mixed-development project in Jalan Semarak which features a shopping mall, two serviced apartment buildings, and a five-star hotel.
Second charge
Tengku Adnan is also accused of accepting an RM2 million cheque from property tycoon Chai Kin Kong, the chairperson of Aset Kayamas Sdn Bhd.
Chai and several Aset Kayamas subsidiaries are said to have had a working relationship with the Federal Territories Ministry.
Based on information gathered from Aset Kayamas' website, the group is involved in building several Federal Territories Affordable Home Programme (RumahWIP) projects.
For both offences, Tengku Adnan was charged under Section 165 of the Penal Code, which penalises public servants obtaining an item of value from a person concerned in any proceeding or business transacted by the former.
Tan is also punishable under the same section.
If convicted, Tengku Adnan and Tan can be jailed for up to two years, fined, or both. - Mkini
