Investigate anti-Christmas protesters, says Sabah party

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS) has lodged a complaint against PAS and several NGOs for objecting to Christian celebrations in the state, following their protest against a recent Christmas carnival in Tawau.
It urged the authorities to take proactive measures to stem anti-Christian sentiments in the area.
Vice-president Norbert Chin said the move by PAS and the NGOs to file a complaint against the organisers of the festival had angered the party and threatened the harmony in Sabah’s multiracial society.
He added that the act was seditious, as the groups were provoking Muslims against the Christians.
“I urge the police and the government to take legal action against these people, and to investigate the backgrounds of these people to ascertain if they really are Sabahans or outsiders who came here to do mischief.
“Those who are not Sabahans must be kicked out of Sabah, and if they are new citizens, their citizenship must be revoked because they have failed to respect the laws and customs of this state,” he said.
Chin said he had checked the names of all the NGOs listed in the memorandum as he suspected that not all of the organisations are legal.
He added that a check with the Registrar of Societies revealed that some of the NGOs were not even registered.
“I hope the police will check these so-called NGOs because I am worried these organisations are just a front for a shadier movement or agenda.
“This anti-Christian movement must be nipped in the bud,” he said.
On Dec 31, a group of people claiming to represent several political parties including Warisan, PAS, Umno and PKR issued a statement to a local daily protesting the Christmas carnival in Tawau which they said had elements of proselytism.
However, only PAS has confirmed its involvement in the protest. The party has also issued a statement to clarify the need for the protest.
The other political parties have denied being part of the group. -FMT
