Sg Koyan Bersatu backs Manogaran as candidate for Camerons

M Manogaran, the DAP candidate who contested in Cameron Highlands in the last general election, has been endorsed by Sungai Koyan Bersatu to run for the parliamentary seat again in the upcoming by-election.
A letter dated Dec 28 and sighted by Malaysiakini said the branch pledged its support for Manogaran as the Pakatan Harapan candidate.
Sungai Koyan is located within the Jelai state seat, a constituency held by Pahang menteri besar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail within Cameron Highlands.
Although Harapan has yet to announce its candidate, Manogaran seems to be the frontrunner to contest again.
This follows the success of Manogaran's court challenge last month which saw the Election Court ordering a by-election.
The EC subsequently announced that MIC's C Sivarraajh, who won on May 9, would not be eligible to contest or vote in any election for five years.
Yesterday, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said that MIC has an advantage in the by-election, as the seat has traditionally been held by BN.
Lim added that DAP will hold a meeting with its central executive committee this week to decide on their choice of candidate.
This would be followed by the Harapan presidential council meeting to endorse the chosen candidate.
Meanwhile, news reports claim that MIC has shortlisted four candidates to contest the seat.
The by-election is the first contest after May 9 between the Pahang state government led by Wan Rosdy against the Harapan federal government.
