Umno supreme council member Lokman Noor Adam should stop making "racist speculation" on the death of firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim, says Xavier Jayakumar.
The PKR vice-president said Lokman should instead wait for the inquest into the cause of Adib's death to begin, and submit any credible evidence he may have to authorities.
"I would like to call on him to stop making racist speculation and wait patiently for the inquest proceedings to commence.
"If he has any credible evidence on attempts to cover up or suppress the incident, he may submit it to the relevant authorities to assist in the inquest proceedings," he told Malaysiakini through an aide today.
At a protest yesterday, Lokman alleged that several cabinet ministers have attempted to cover up the results of Adib's postmortem.
The Umno leader also accused prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, home minister Muhyiddin Yassin and attorney-general Tommy Thomas of "protecting" Adib's alleged murderers.
"Some of these cabinet ministers, among others (Minister in the Prime Minister's Department) P Waythamoorthy, have urged cabinet to tamper with the postmortem report.
"(They wanted the report to state) that Adib died because of an accident, that he was hit by a vehicle.
"Are we going to let this happen?" Lokman told his fellow protesters last night.
At the time of writing, Waythamoorthy's office has not responded to Malaysiakini's request for comments. - Mkini
