Anwar nips 'no-confidence vote' talk in the bud, says Dr M taking Tg Piai seriously

PKR president Anwar Ibrahim said talk of a no-confidence vote against Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad was never raised by the top Pakatan Harapan leadership, despite the spread of such speculation.
"It was never raised. If there was, it cannot be that I don't know. I've been in touch with Muhyiddin Yassin, Mat Sabu, Kit Siang and Guan Eng almost on a daily basis and it was never raised," he said.
Anwar (above) said if there was any such effort, they would have come from the very people who spread such speculation.
The no-confidence vote speculation came amid some Harapan grassroots leaders blaming Mahathir for the coalition's landslide defeat in the Tanjung Piai by-election.

Anwar said Mahathir is taking the defeat seriously and have already taken steps to address it.
"Mahathir sees the Tanjung Piai blow as something serious and he has called for a special session for Harapan this Saturday.
"That means he is responding. He is not ignoring what the people have conveyed," he said.
He added that those who did not agree with this position were only those in the periphery.
"Those are in the periphery (pinggiran) that do not follow the Harapan direction," he said.
Asked to elaborate on this group, Anwar merely broke out into song, singing P Ramlee's "Di Pinggiran".
Yesterday, Mahathir said "maybe" when asked if he thought he was responsible for Harapan's landslide defeat in the Tanjung Piai by-election.
However, he said, Harapan would only decide on the transition when the time comes.
“We don’t yet know whether the country is ready for a transition of power or not. When the time comes, we will decide,” he said.
Under Harapan's consensus, Mahathir is to eventually hand over the premiership to Anwar but no specific timeline was outlined.
Anwar had indicated that he would like to take over after Mahathir served as prime minister for two years, which will be in May next year.
However, Mahathir has indicated that he may need more than two years.
Meanwhile, Anwar's opponents, including his estranged party deputy Azmin Ali, are pushing for Mahathir to serve a full term as prime minister. - Mkini
