Claim support for Jeck Seng is support for Najib is rubbish - MCA chief

TG PIAI POLLS | MCA president Wee Ka Siong has rubbished claims that a win for the party in the coming Tanjung Piai polls would ensure the return of former premier Najib Abdul Razak to power.
He said this when accusing the Pakatan Harapan government of twisting the issue of Najib’s ongoing corruption trial when campaigning for this Saturday’s parliamentary by-election in Johor.
“Of course the government will spin all these issues. I was shocked when they said after the judgement by the court that if you voted for (BN candidate) Wee Jeck Seng, and if he wins, Najib will be back again.
“I do not know what kind of logic this is.

“You are undermining the legal system, as though one by-election can determine the fate of the accused (Najib)...this is utter rubbish,” Wee said to reporters in Parliament lobby today.
He pointed out that Najib, who is also Pekan MP, was not BN’s candidate in the polls nor was he still BN chairperson, but rather, was merely a former leader who had gone down to help the election campaign.
“...(It is as though Harapan claims) if you support Jeck Seng, you support Najib," said Wee.
His comment came following the Kuala Lumpur High Court decision that the former prime minister must defend himself against all seven charges concerning SRC International Sdn Bhd.
Wee was asked if the court judgement would affect Chinese votes in Tanjung Piai. Instead, he said the court process should be allowed to take its course.
At the same time, the MCA chief further rubbished what he claimed was the assertion Harapan’s Ubah or change agenda would be destroyed if its candidate Karmaine Sardini loses.
“I don’t understand this. A by-election is just a by-election. It won’t change the government...it will still be Harapan,” he said to reporters today.
He elaborated that BN currently only has 40 seats in Parliament. As such, a win in Johor would not be able to affect the ruling coalition’s ability to carry out reforms
“Please be logical," he added.
Today was early voting day for Tanjung Piai. The main polling day will be Nov 16.
MCA’s Jeck Seng, the former two-time lawmaker for the constituency before being ousted by Bersatu’s incumbent Dr Mohd Farid Mohd Rafik in GE14, last year, is taking on Bersatu’s Tanjung Piai division chief Karmaine.
Also contesting are Gerakan deputy secretary-general Wendy Subramaniam, Berjasa president Badhrulhisham Abdul Aziz and independents Ang Chuan Lock and Faridah Aryani Abdul Ghaffar. - Mkini
