Communal 'exploitation' message a hurdle for Harapan - Mat Sabu

TANJUNG PIAI POLLS | Amanah president Mohamad Sabu to acknowledged that racial messages tailored differently for the Malay and Chinese communities are proving to be a hurdle for Pakatan Harapan, particularly in the Tanjung Piai by-election.
"The Chinese are told that the DAP is a lackey of (Prime Minister) Dr Mahathir Mohamad, causing unhappiness.
"The Malays are told that they are being exploited by the DAP.
"The reality is every decision is discussed collectively in the cabinet. It is not about anyone exploiting anyone," he told a press conference after a function in Kota Bharu tonight.

Mohamad, better known as Mat Sabu, said the Tanjung Piai by-election will be an uphill task for the coalition.
"It will not be easy to win Tanjung Piai. Racial issues will affect Chinese support. They (opposition) are saying that the DAP is a tool for Mahathir while Malays are told they are being used by the DAP.
"The people are influenced by racial issues," he said.
Mohamad, who is the defence minister, also rebutted claims that Harapan had failed to fulfil its election promises, stating that it has a five-year term to do so and many of them have already been implemented.
"We admit that we have not explained enough to the people," he said.
The two main candidates in the Tanjung Piai by-election are Bersatu's Karmaine Sardini and MCA's Wee Jeck Seng.
The other candidates are Berjasa's Badhrulhisham Abdul Aziz, Gerakan's Wendy Subramaniam and independent candidates Ang Chuan Lock and Faridah Aryani Abd Ghaffar.
In the last general election, Bersatu's Md Farid Md Rafik garnered 21,255 votes against Wee who received 20,731 votes, winning by a 524-vote margin.
He passed away from a heart attack in September, triggering the by-election.
Campaigning for the Tanjung Piai by-election officially began yesterday and voters will go to the polls on Nov 16. - Mkini
