MUAR: DAP welcomes the assurance given by the Home Ministry that further investigations will be carried out into allegations that the men under arrest in connection with the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma) were abused and tortured throughout their detention.
DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng (pic) said that the party welcomes the move by the Home Ministry to investigate the matter thoroughly.
"We appreciate the assurance given by Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin that these allegations of abuse and torture will be investigated seriously.
"We hope an in depth investigation on the matter will be conducted by the Inspector-General of Police," he said.
He said this in his speech when addressing delegates during the Johor DAP Convention here in Muar Sunday (Nov 3).
Muhyiddin had earlier denied allegations of abuse and torture by the police on those arrested under Sosma.
However, he said that because the allegations were serious, he had instructed the IGP to undertake a detailed investigation into the matter. - Star
