PETALING JAYA: Terengganu PPBM Youth today blamed its chief, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, for the loss Pakatan Harapan suffered at the Tanjung Piai by-election last night.
Terengganu PPBM Youth chief Syaiful Irfan Anang said Syed Saddiq, who also heads the PH youth wing, did not carry out his responsibilities as a leader well to mobilise the youth machinery which was “very weak”.
“We need to reprimand him because the loss suffered in the Tanjung Piai by-election is extremely upsetting,” he said in a statement.
Last night, Barisan Nasional’s Wee Jeck Seng defeated PPBM’s Karmaine Sardini, representing Pakatan Harapan, by a 15,086-vote majority.
Syaiful Irfan had earlier refuted a statement by former PKR deputy president Syed Husin Ali, attributing the loss to the voters’ disappointment with PH, especially Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Instead, he said, the decision of the voters not to back PH was due to several unresolved issues linked to Syed Saddiq, especially those related to the Johor palace.
Syaiful Irfan urged Syed Saddiq to resolve any conflicts and immediately strengthen the grassroots and PH Youth. - FMT
