MELAKA: Melaka PKR chairman Datuk Halim Bachik (pic) has failed to secure a senator post without the votes from two of his party’s assemblymen.
As such, the Melaka state assembly rejected a motion proposing the appointment of Halim Bachik as a senator without the presence of Datuk Ginie Lim Siew Lin (PKR-Machap Jaya) and Datuk Muhamad Jailani Khamis (PKR-Rembia).
All 13 Barisan Nasional assemblymen opposed the motion while 12 Pakatan Harapan assemblymen supported it.
G. Saminathan (DAP-Gadek) was absent and excused from attending the proceedings due to his detention under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012.
When debating the motion tabled by Chief Minister Adly Zahari on Monday (Nov 25), Damian Yeo Shen Li (DAP-Duyong) and Datuk Gue Teck (PKR-Klebang) supported it, while state opposition leader Datuk Seri Idris Haron (BN-Sungai Udang) and Datuk Sulaiman Md Ali (BN-Lendu) opposed it.
Idris told the House a candidate from Parti Amanah Negara should be nominated because the party has lesser representation in the state compared to other Pakatan component parties. - Star
