MP wants health tests for lawmakers after deputy minister collapses

PARLIAMENT | A Pakatan Harapan lawmaker has suggested that all MPs be subjected to medical checks after Multimedia and Communications Deputy Minister Eddin Syazlee Shith fainted in the Dewan Rakyat today.
The incident occurred at about 10.30am when Housing and Local Government Deputy Minister Raja Kamarul Bahrin was answering a question from Salim Sharif (BN- Jempol).
Upon seeing Eddin Syazlee, 45, collapse in his seat, Raja Kamarul stopped speaking.
Following this, Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker Mohd Rashid Hasnon adjourned the session and summoned the health officers to attend to Eddin Syazlee, who is also Kuala Pilah MP.

Proceedings resumed about 15 minutes later.
Last month, Mansor Othman (Harapan-Nibong Tebal) had also collapsed when debating the Budget 2020.
Following the episode involving Eddin Syazlee, Kota Melaka MP Khoo Poay Tiong called for a stringent health screening.
“I suggest that Parliament conducts health tests for all 222 lawmakers because I see that MPs are so hardworking to the point of neglecting their health," said the DAP lawmaker.
Responding to this, Health Minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said discussions have been held with the Health Department director-general regarding this issue.
“We must take care of the health of our lawmakers,” he told the House.
The Tanjung Piai parliamentary seat fell vacant after its 43-year-old incumbent Md Farid Md Rafik from Harapan died of a heart attack in September. - Mkini
