Mr Lim Kit Siang, Brader Sallahuddin Ayub - Is This Another Cekik Darah Policy?

I keep saying that our economy and the economic well  being of the people. especially the Malays and the bumiputras are not anywhere near their potential because there is no free market in Malaysia.

Everything is controlled, everything has a government sanctioned monopoly or oligopoly that has been choking the lives of the people.

Only the very few rich, the powerful, the connected and the influential seem to deny the remaining 32 million people  a better life.

A few days ago I received this shocking comment in one of my posts. Thank you to the commenter. (I hope you can throw more light on this matter.)  I cannot verify the details of all that is being said but it sounds genuine enough. I am taking it at face value.

Here is the comment :

OSTB I was chatting with some friends yesterday and we were talking about fruit exporting.

To my surprise,
  • for durian to be exported overseas, local exporters have to go through 6 entities (ie  companies that monopolise) or else no go.
  • The same goes for exporting pineapples in which exporters have to go through 3 companies or else no go as well.
So the complaint is that all these companies that control (the export permits) make money out of thin air.

The exporters complain that this practice have been in existence since about 8 years ago and because of this Malaysian products (fruits) are becoming less attractive due to the excessive high prices  which is to be paid to these companies that control the products being exported.

As for dragon fruits, it seems dragon fruits are not allowed to be exported at ALL.

Wonder what happens to the excess dragon fruits if such a regulation exists. Maybe OSTB wanna look into this.

I would have thought that 18 months into the new government these types of practises would have all been abolished.

Under the BN and the failed New Economic Policy these practises were the rule.  The rich Datos and Tan Sris had the monopolies and strangleholds on useless pieces of paper called "permits" (APs for imports, export permits for timber, plywood etc were common). It appears that there were also export permits for durians and pineapples.

But why does this complaint still arise? How come the Pakatan government has NOT abolished these useless "get rich quick through permits" scams?

These APs, permits etc add zero value and are 100% piractical policies. Worse they add to the costs of doing business and kill off our economy from  growing to its potential.

Imagine the numbers of unemployed Malays (especially unemployed Malay graduates) who would get more job opportunities if our durian producers and dragon fruit producers can export their products without these pirates blocking their path? The Malay people do not realise that their leaders are making them poor.

I hope Mr Lim Kit Siang will look into this. There is going to be more pressure on you Mr Lim. You are part of the government now. You were very serious before. Time to be really serious again.
