Muhyiddin: We cannot give up on hunt for Jho Low

Putrajaya will not give up on its hunt for fugitive businessperson Jho Low, a mastermind in the 1MDB scandal, despite the difficulties, said Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
"Even though we have received some information about his whereabouts as well as Interpol's cooperation to issue a red notice, but if we do not get cooperation from the countries where we suspect Low is, then it is difficult to take action.
"But we are still trying. We cannot give up. Whatever it is, we want to bring him back to Malaysia to face the court of law," he told journalists at the Parliament lobby today.
Muhyiddin was responding to Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador who said Malaysia was facing several challenges in tracking Low down, including uncooperative foreign authorities.

He added that there were also claims by these authorities that Low had undergone plastic surgery.
However, Muhyiddin said Malaysia will press on to track Low down.
"Even if he has undergone cosmetic surgery, what is important is for us to pursue him.
"We will not stop until we get cooperation from the countries where he is and with Interpol's help, we can solve it," he said.
Muhyiddin said it was hard to put a timeline on when Malaysia can secure Low and he will leave it up to the police.
The US Department of Justice believed that at least US$4.5 billion has been misappropriated from 1MDB and is working with Malaysia to recover the allegedly stolen funds.
