Najib's bid to remove Sri Ram from 1MDB case set for hearing next year

The Kuala Lumpur High Court has set March 9 next year to hear a judicial review filed by Najib Razak and lawyer Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, who are seeking to remove former Federal Court judge Gopal Sri Ram from prosecuting them over 1MDB-linked cases.
According to a counsel involved in the matter, the date was set by Judge Mariana Yahya during case management this morning.
However, the date is still a tentative and subject to change.
"The judge has set March 9 to hear the case. It will be a one-day hearing.

"She also set Feb 28 for the next case management and submission. By then we will confirm if the trial date stands or to fix another date," Farhan Shafee told reporters.
Farhan, who represents the former prime minister and Shafee, said the hearing date is subject to further change due to other ongoing trials involving the two.
Najib and Shafee had filed separate leave applications to seek judicial review against appointment of Sri Ram as the lead prosecutor in criminal trials against them that are linked to the troubled sovereign wealth fund.
This includes the ongoing 1MDB case where Najib is facing criminal charges over RM2.28 billion funds belonging to the subsidiary of Minister of Finance Incorporated.
It was reported that on Aug 26, the Court of Appeal granted leave to both Najib and Shafee to proceed with their judicial review applications.
The apex court decision in effect overturned an earlier High Court decision on Feb 20 that denied leave to the duo to proceed with their judicial review. - Mkini
