Police said that there are no safety issues concerning Batu MP and PKR lawmaker P Prabakaran in regards to the incident where his Toyota Vellfire was splattered with eggs on Friday.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Mazlan Lazim said police have not ruled out the possibility that the incident was triggered by the demands from certain parties who wanted the Batu MP to resign.
"Actually, there is no issue. It's just that recently he was asked to resign. But this (incident) has nothing to do with safety," Mazlan told the media when met at the Police Training Center in the city today.
Yesterday, Prabakaran filed a report at the Sentul police station after the Friday incident where his car, parked behind a restaurant in Jalan Ipoh, was splattered with eggs.
“I am making this report because I am concerned about my safety, especially with the ongoing issues,” read the report.
Commenting on the investigation, Mazlan said police couldn't identify those behind the incident as there was no closed-circuit television (CCTV) in the area.
"However, we are looking at other CCTVs in the nearby area and appeal to those who have information about the incident to facilitate police investigations," he said.
The attack comes in the wake of news that a coalition of NGOs had demanded Prabakaran to step down for PKR vice-president Tian Chua to contest the Batu seat. Tian Chua has denied any involvement.
In the last general election, Prabakaran, 23, contested the Batu seat as an independent candidate and was supported by PKR.
This was after the Election Commission disqualified Tian Chua, who served as Batu MP for a decade, from contesting.
Responding to the call for him to resign, Prabakaran said he would serve the constituency until the end of his term and "won't drop the people halfway through". - Mkini
