KUALA LUMPUR: Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said today that the contracts given to three institutes run by his ministry were done through open tender, responding to a Barisan Nasional (BN) MP who claimed to have been told otherwise.
“Open tender,” he said when questioned by Ahmad Maslan (BN-Pontian).
Jalaluddin Alias (BN-Jelebu) had said he had proof that contracts worth RM7 million had been given to a company to run Institut Kemahiran Belia Negara in Melaka, Selangor and Perlis.
He also read out the names of companies in different states which he said were given contracts worth millions.
“Since last night, news has been going viral on contracts given to several companies by the youth and sports ministry,” he said.
He added that papers with the names of the companies in question had been placed on his table in the Dewan Rakyat by a ministry official.
He asked why these contracts were given to selected companies when there are over 6,000 Bumiputera companies that are eligible to run the food business at these institutes. - FMT
