PM post aside, what's your economic blueprint: Gerakan veep to Anwar

Apart from setting his sights on becoming the eighth prime minister, Gerakan vice-president Baljit Singh said PKR president Anwar Ibrahim has offered little in terms of his economic blueprint for the nation.
Speaking to Malaysiakini today, he said Malaysians are sick and tired of the polemics surrounding the transition of power plan and leaders who are only interested in consolidating their positions instead of improving people's lives.
Baljit said the situation is made worse by politicians who exploit racial and religious issues.
"Other than focussing his sights on the PM post, does Anwar have any idea what the people are going through in terms of their social and economic situation? How much burden is being put on them on a daily basis and that they are struggling to make ends meet?
"Honestly, Malaysians don't care who will be the next PM, they generally want someone who can bring about the promised reforms as well as the commitment and drive to fulfil the GE14 manifesto which propelled Pakatan Harapan into power," he added.
Baljit underscored several issues which the next premier must commit to in order to convince the people that he or she is fit for the post.
These include an effective economic plan, better wages to ease the people's daily burdens and a blueprint to place Malaysia on par with neighbouring nations.
Baljit said law reforms are also crucial to bring about justice for all instead of being used as a tool of oppression by those in power.
The Gerakan leader said Harapan should have anticipated their routing in last Saturday's Tanjung Piai by-election in Johor.
"Tg Piai was a tough lesson for Harapan but they should have seen it coming if they had been sincere in evaluating their performance since they took power in May 2018," he said.
"Instead of blaming one another in the media, please tell us what can they do to salvage the situation. The rakyat can no longer stomach the daily theatrics or sandiwara, if Harapan wants to be actors instead of leaders, please try your skills in Hollywood or Bollywood," he added.
Baljit also had a message for Anwar, which is to set things right in PKR before aspiring to lead the nation.
"As for the next PM, please put your own house PKR in order. If you cannot manage your own house, how will you manage a country with 32 million mouths to feed?" he asked.
PKR has been witnessing a protracted feud between Anwar and his estranged deputy Azmin Ali, who is speculated to be also vying for the premier's post. - Mkini
