Trouble appears to be brewing in Selangor Umno, after division leaders boycotted a meeting yesterday, in protest of state party chief Nadzari Ahmad Dahlan.
Sources told Malaysiakini that only six out of 22 division leaders turned up for the meeting yesterday.
"This is the first time a state Umno meeting failed to be held because of a protest by division chiefs.
"Of the 22 division leaders, besides the management (chairperson, deputy chair, information chief, and treasurer) only Noh Omar attended as committee member. The other 16 did not attend," a source said.
The division leaders are reportedly unhappy with Nadzari (above), who was appointed in July, because they believe him to be a "lackey" of former Umno vice-president Hishammuddin Hussein.
"We are not interested to have a meeting with Hishammuddin's lackey. Before this we had a retreat but the (Selangor Umno) management went to Sembrong (Hishammuddin's constituency) to have a meeting there.
"We have also advised this lackey not to be 'excessive' but they did not heed our advice so that is why this boycott occurred," the source added.
They added that they also resent Hishammuddin allegedly heading a delegation of 17 BN lawmakers to meet with PKR deputy president Azmin Ali earlier this week.
This they said, disrespected the party leadership, alleging further that Hishammuddin is trying to form a unity government so that he can be prime minister himself.
Hishammuddin had previously denied efforts to form a unity government.
Malaysiakini has contacted Hishammuddin and Nadzari for a response.
The Selangor Umno sources told the portal that division leaders would be meeting with party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to push for a reshuffle of the state Umno leadership, including appointing a new chief. - Mkini
