Shafee: Najib shocked, expected to be acquitted of all charges

SRC TRIAL | Former premier Najib Abdul Razak was shocked with the Kuala Lumpur High Court's decision, according to his lawyer Muhammad Shafee Abdullah.
He said the defence team was confident that Najib would be acquitted on all seven charges related to SRC International Sdn Bhd, instead of being ordered to enter his defence.
"He was shocked that defence was called for every charge. He, too, was expecting an acquittal on all seven charges.
"We were confident all the seven charges would be an acquittal at this stage because we have rebutted the presumption even within the prosecution's case. We have rebutted.
"So of course, he was surprised. In fact, shocked is the word," he told reporters outside the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex today.
Earlier, Kuala Lumpur High Court judge Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali ordered Najib to enter his defence for one count of abusing his position for gratification, three counts of criminal breach of trust and three counts of money laundering.
On the bright side, Shafee said Najib now has an opportunity to tell his side of the story.
"But what I can say is that having heard the decision, although I am sad that defence has been called, I am also happy...
"One is that you will hear the real story from the accused. He has to tell his version of what happened in SRC as far as he knows.
“What are the things he can dispute. Whether he was in control of SRC, which we had said he was not in control of," he added.
Shafee also believes that the reasons cited by the judge for his decision would make their defence easier.
“This is because things (which are) obviously unprovable... cannot be proved, were taken into consideration," he added. - Mkini
