Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said Pakatan Harapan has identified problem areas that need to be resolved, after a post-mortem briefing on the coalition's crushing defeat in the Tanjung Piai by-election.
Mahathir (above) declined to say what the problems were, but said those who know what needs to be done are the ministers and the Harapan component parties.
"We each know about our own mistakes, and we will take steps to overcome it," he said at a press conference in Putrajaya today.
"We'll find out what people are not happy about, and if they point out we have not done anything, we'll try to correct. If they point out we must reshuffle, we'll consider it," he also said.
The by-election on Nov 16 saw BN candidate Wee Jeck Seng garnering a total of 25,466 votes, defeating Harapan's Karmaine Sardini with a 15,086 majority.
The loss was attributed in part to protest votes against the government.
Mahathir said the people are divided, with those who are satisfied with the government keeping silent, while those who are unhappy are very vocal.
Thus he said, the government will look at who they should listen to.
Meanwhile, the Harapan chairperson also chided that the government was being fair to everyone, as they are all unhappy.
"There are accusations that Harapan is completely controlled by DAP, this is what the Malays say.
"Meanwhile the Chinese believe DAP is being used by Mahathir from Bersatu. So there is a balance, both sides are not happy," he said. - Mkini
