YOURSAY: 'It's about staying out of jail and to continue their plundering of the nation.'
Anonymous 770241447347646: The talk about a unity government may seem absurd, but it may solve the current political situation.
But it has to be a unity government that must not include those being charged in the courts for corruption. It is only fair that they have to face the justice system for their crimes.
Also, a unity government that does not include PAS. Their statements and policies will frighten away many genuine investors.
Only then, there will be peace. Only those who can produce results can be selected as ministers and their deputies.
The next most important issue is to set a time frame for handing over the nation’s leadership baton to PKR president Anwar Ibrahim.
MACC should be put under the preview of Parliament and not under any ministry or leader.
The police should be answerable to Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC), which should comprise respected and reputable retired individuals from both the government and the private sector.
We cannot allow for the future of 32 million Malaysians to be in limbo just because of some political misunderstanding. Let the unity government continue until 2023 and after that, let the people decide as to which coalition they prefer.
David Dass: Of course, Umno leaders will say this. They think they smell blood. They are like sharks swirling around potential prey. They think that Pakatan Harapan is going to ditch Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, and they are offering him a lifeline.
They are wrong on several counts. Harapan will never ditch Mahathir. They have an agreement to ensure an orderly succession, and they will stick to that.
DAP is not the problem. Prior to GE13, DAP was part of the governments of Penang and Selangor. PAS was also in that coalition. Both state governments were administered better than ever before. The Malays were not adversely affected, and PAS never complained.
Harapan has been in charge after GE14. Much energy has been expended in dealing with problems created by the previous government, not problems created by DAP. Some Umno leaders face many charges involving financial impropriety. Losses go into the billions.
The PAS-Umno combination is a formidable combination. But it is a mistake for them to think that they can play up race and religious issues without consequence.
Whatever games PKR deputy president Azmin Ali played when meeting the Umno MPs, I find it hard to believe that Mahathir would deal with Umno on any terms that do not involve a complete overhaul of their leadership.
Black Thorn: Now we know why Azmin had the meet-up with those Umno MPs. Today, we see the true intention of Azmin gathering support to continue to stay in power with the help of opposition parties.
It is unbelievable that these leaders dare to openly suggest such an alliance to shore up support for Mahathir to enrich themselves without shame.
I personally think that intelligent Malays wouldn’t condone such an unholy pact with thieves for the sake of keeping Malays in power and in control.
Odysseus: Indeed, for Umno’s corrupt politicians, it's all about staying out of jail and to continue their plundering of the nation's wealth.
This has nothing to do about Malays and their welfare. If it’s about the welfare of Malays, the Malay Dignity Congress wouldn't be begging for crutches after 60 years of Umno.
FlabberPro: Umno is still missing the point. It is not DAP's fault for Harapan’s loss in Tanjung Piai. The people did not vote for Harapan because they want to send a strong message to the coalition.
However, despite doing so, they are not accepting Umno either. Honestly, if Umno comes back to power, I will emigrate.
Umno will do all it can to free former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak and all his cronies from the charges that they are facing now.
If that happens, our land will be ruled by worst rulers. There is no way we will allow them to return.
Siva1967: @FlabberPro, it is not that Umno is missing the point. It is all about politics and DAP, unfortunately, is predominantly Chinese and an easy target.
Rational thinking does not prevail here. Only politics and which politician can capitalise on perception more effectively.
At the end of the day, it is all about power and the chance to plunder the government's coffers with projects and grants and whatnot.
The politician who takes the straight path will be slaughtered. As the saying goes, only the straight trees get chopped first.
I Am_Penang_Kia: I am really out of words to describe the opposition in Malaysia.
So far, they formed a shadow cabinet but never gave any constructive proposals. They oppose or sabotage any Harapan proposal in Parliament for the sake of being the opposition.
They used nothing but race and religion as an excuse to slander anyone in their way. Now, they trying to poison the mind of certain Harapan ministers in the hope that they can go through the back door to get back into power.
They are beyond despicable.
Drngsc: It looks like nobody believes in the will of the people anymore. Democracy is dead. It is all about personal survival.
Mandates and manifestos are nothing but a scrap of paper to be crushed and thrown away at will as long as they can stay in power, by hook or by crook. These people are really shameless and this PM is also shameless. His word means nothing.
Well, let them plot and wheel and deal. The people are watching and will know what to do when the time comes. - Mkini
