After being named in phone recording, Azwan wants Latheefa to resign

BN senator Khairul Azwan Harun has called on MACC chief Latheefa Koya to resign following the release of phone recordings, one of which has him mentioned by name.
Azwan (photo) said the move of playing the recordings to the media was reprehensible, and as such Latheefa must resign to safeguard the MACC's integrity and image.
"Further, without prejudice to my statement in this paragraph, I urge all MPs to refer Latheefa to a Parliament Select Committee for damaging MACC's good name and credibility," he added in a statement today.
He also said that he was exploring legal options available to him.

Azwan's name had cropped up in the 2016 recording of Rosmah Mansor's conversation with Najib Razak when they were discussing then MACC chief Abu Kassim Mohamed.
"I allowed Azwan to make the statement... the impact is good," Najib had said.
Latheefa told the media that Azwan referred to "Azwan Bro" but was unaware that this was the nickname used by the senator.
Najib's remarks on July 27, 2016, is believed to refer to a police report Azwan lodged the day before, claiming a conspiracy by Abu Kassim and others to topple the prime minister.
Azwan, in his statement today, denied any involvement in the management of 1MDB and SRC, as well as any conspiracy which the MACC alleged happened.
Latheefa had said the recordings raised serious questions about "abuse of power, criminal conspiracy, obstruction of justice, compromising national security, fabrication of false evidence through foreign aid and connivance." - Mkini
