Bersatu to hold maiden elections from Jan to April

Bersatu is slated to hold its party elections in tandem with their annual division and branch meetings from Jan 25 to April 4, said party elections committee chairperson Syed Hamid Albar.
“In conjunction with the meetings, Bersatu will hold committee elections at the branch, division and supreme council level, including the Srikandi and Armada wings, for the first time,” Syed Hamid said in a statement today.
After the elections at the branch level which will elect division-level leaders, the division meetings will vote for the supreme council leaders at the federal level.
Similarly, the Srikandi and Armada branches will hold their elections before electing their division leaders, who will in turn vote for the Srikandi and Armada leaders at the federal level, he explained.

Party members at the branch level who wish to contest in the elections do not need to register their candidacy as long as they are valid party members.
However, those who wish to contest at the division level will need to register their candidacy to the party election committee officers at their respective division offices on Jan 13 from 9am to 2pm.
“Only candidates verified by the party election committee will be included in the candidates' list to be distributed to members during the elections in conjunction with branch meetings,” Syed Hamid said.
He also urged members to check the status of their party membership which will be displayed at the division and branch offices from Jan 7 to Jan 12.
This is because, he said, the party election committee will only acknowledge the list of members qualified to attend the branch meetings as released by the Bersatu head office as verified by the party’s secretary-general.
Previously, Bersatu chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad had said the elections for the party’s top posts would be held during their annual general meeting in June this year. - Mkini
