Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin has advised those in Pakatan Harapan who are still unable to accustom themselves to being part of the government to change.
The PKR vice-president was commenting on Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad reportedly stating that if the coalition does not put a stop to internal bickering, it might not survive the next general election.
“This was a warning to those who are still unable to accustom themselves to being the government.
“So they must be careful and if they love (Harapan), they must change,” she told reporters in Putrajaya this afternoon.
“But if they insist on continuing (in the same vein), as I said before, no government like that would last,” she added without mentioning names.
PKR has witnessed a protracted feud between its president Anwar Ibrahim and his deputy Azmin Ali. Zuraida is aligned to the latter.
Whereas the issue of whether Mahathir would pass the leadership baton to Anwar as promised continues to plague the coalition.
Yesterday, Mahathir had clarified that he does not think Harapan would be a single term government.
Responding to a Reuters report, the prime minister said this was the international news agency's opinion.
“Yes, we have lost three or four by-elections but that does not mean we will lose in a big election. That is Reuters’ opinion, they are entitled (to one).
“In this free world, they are entitled to their opinion but my opinion is different,” he added.
On the 'true path'
Zuraida, who is also PKR vice-president, said she believes she is following the right path in politics, and as such, will never join another party.
"The issue (of joining the other party) does not enter our thoughts because when we are on the true path, it not an issue where we are," she said when asked to comment if she would consider leaving PKR for Bersatu.
Yesterday, a fake Bersatu membership form bearing Zuraida's name circulated on social media and set tongues wagging but both Bersatu and PKR officials confirmed it was not genuine.
The form purportedly showed Zuraida's application to join Bersatu's Ampang division but Khairulnoor Khairuddin, who leads that division, said it is untrue.
It was accompanied by a bogus letter claiming that Anwar had failed to unite the party and that Zuraida preferred to endorse the leadership of Mahathir, who also leads Bersatu.
Zuraida's political secretary Nor Hizwan Ahmad said all the documents transmitted were fake and that the action of using the Housing and Local Government Ministry's letterhead was irresponsible.
Zuraida today said she would not waste time entertaining trivial issues and that she would rather focus on building the country.
In response to PKR Saifuddin Nasution's call for her to stay calm and focus on responding to a show-cause letter issued by the party's disciplinary board rather than be prejudiced, Zuraida fired back, saying that she had no problems staying calm.
“The secretary-general has requested me to calm down, but that's not an issue as I was very quiet when my party was in its worst state in 2004. I stuck by the party.
“But my secretary-general ran away at that time.
"So, he's the one who's restless. I'm calmer," she said, in reference to events in 2004 when Saifuddin was rumoured to be on the verge of leaving PKR for PAS and work for then Kelantan menteri besar Nik Aziz Nik Mat. - Mkini
