Dep minister to defend Bersatu division chief post, brother backs challenger

Ketereh Bersatu division chief Radzi Jidin will be defending his post against his deputy - Uzair Mohd Yusof - in the party's upcoming inaugural polls.
As an added challenge, Uzair's attempt to unseat Radzi (above) has received backing from the deputy economic affairs minister's older brother, Nazri Jidin.
"I, Nazri Jidin, the older brother of Radzi, openly supports Uzair as a contender for Ketereh Bersatu division chief in this election," Nazir said in a video clip sent to Malaysiakini.
Meanwhile, Uzair said his intention to contest was also driven by calls from the grassroots for a change in the party's administration and division machinery.

"We listened and we see complaints from the machinery who seeks urgent change, particularly as a party from the ruling federal coalition.
"Although the incumbent (Radzi) is a deputy minister, we see that he's incapable of taking care and administering the party with credibility.
"This has stunted the party's growth," added Uzair.
In the last 14th general elections, Radzi was fielded as Harapan's candidate for the Ketereh parliamentary seat but eventually lost to Umno secretary-general Annuar Musa.
Syed Saddiq picked as Muar Bersatu chief
Meanwhile, Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has been appointed as Muar Bersatu division chief, replacing outgoing incumbent Dr Shahruddin Md Salleh, who is also the deputy federal territories minister.
New Straits Times reported that Syed Saddiq (photo) had won the position uncontested after the conclusion of Bersatu Muar division polls and meeting last night.
He joined the ranks of top three Bersatu leaders - chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad, president Muhyiddin Yassin, and deputy president Mukhriz Mahathir - who have all defended their division chief posts in Langkawi, Pagoh and Jerlun respectively.
It was reported yesterday that Syed Saddiq is expected to face at least two challengers to defend his Youth Wing's chief post.
Another federal minister, Rina Harun, will also be challenged to defend her women wing's chief post.
Bersatu's inaugural polls since the party was formed in 2016 started yesterday with nominations for branch and division positions.
Elections at branch levels are scheduled to be held from Jan 25 to March 1, followed by voting for positions at division level on April 4.
The party's top leadership will be voted on by delegates at its annual general meeting to be held on June 20.
