Kelantan gets RM400 mil special allocation from Putrajaya

Kelantan Menteri Besar Ahmad Yakob says Dr Mahathir Mohamad informed the state of the special allocation in a letter.
KOTA BHARU: Kelantan has received a one-off allocation amounting to RM400 million from the federal government.
Menteri Besar Ahmad Yakob said the allocation, received on Dec 25, would be used to improve the socio-economy and well-being of the people and strengthen the state’s finances.
He said the state government had received a letter from Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad informing it of the allocation on Dec 17.
“The state government expresses its appreciation to Tun Dr Mahathir for the assistance.
“This is the first time that we have received this one-off assistance. We only asked for the royalty payments (for petroleum) before this,” he told reporters after the launch of the Kelantan Sustainable Development Master Plan 2019-2023 at Dewan Teratai, Kota Darul Naim Complex here today.
Ahmad said civil servants and political appointees in the state would receive bonus payments of RM500 and RM250, respectively, next week.
He said the bonus payment was being paid following a surplus of RM45 million in Kelantan’s financial performance last year.
“Despite presenting a deficit budget, we ended up with a surplus for the third consecutive year.
“We try to manage the state finances as best as possible and hold meetings three times a year to monitor the financial flow,” he said. - FMT
